Sherfield Oaks 20 October 2023

Bracknell Cavaliers Golf Society Sherfield Oaks 20 October 2023

Sherfield Oaks Golf Club Friday 20 October 2023

by Graham Pearce

Two days before the event looking at the awful weather reports I was not looking forward to playing , but surprise it all changed and at the end was almost too hot. The course had survived the heavy rainfall with greens in good nick and fairways a bit wet in places all playable.

Playing with Andy North, Steve Faulkner and Colin I had a shaky start managing to hit my second shot sideways but from then on had a really steady front nine and turned with 20 points the same as Andy. Scoring proved harder on the back nine but kept picking up points while Andy had bit of a setback when he lost his Arsenal ball. At the 17th I think we must have been level on points as Andy hit his tee shot to 6 feet of the pin and just missed his birdie putt and I chipped on and putted for out for par.

So lets talk 18th hole, are you paying attention Barrie. My tee shot just cleared the dog leg to give me a sight of the green. Should have played safe, but just went for it and the ball landed 4 feet from the pin and putted out for birdie.

Just one of those days when I didn’t lose a ball, didn’t blob a hole, only went in one bunker and most of those horrible short putts went down. Never happened before.

Well done to Ian Begg for his 38 off a proper handicap.
