Reports Mens Brentwood

May 22nd, home v Hutton Poplars, won 7-2 league points,   ?shots  To be updated when I get my hands on the score cards.

Cloudy, but fairly bright and dry evening  - an amazing performance by one of our teams to score two 9's - yes, two hot shots, probably a first for the club!  Played on rinks 2,3 5 and 6 with a County ladies in between.

Jon, Jeff and  David Aggio on rink 2 a very close game, eventually recorded as a draw.  Controversy on the last end with head end bowlers sweeping up the woods with the skips still to bowl their last woods.  Did it change the result?   Strictly under the rules, the end was probably classed as 'dead' and should have been replayed.

Winston, Ian and Mark were mainly ahead and finished with a good win.

Mel, Graham and Gary - with Mel leading very well and Graham and Gary playing their part, it was an astonishing  game for us to get two hot shots - yes two 9's!   What was the other skip doing?    Well done and a thrashing at 37-13 shots, 50 in a game of 18 ends!

Steve, John and Brian, unfortunately on the unapproved horrible rink 6  struggled when the opposition got better in the middle of the game.  We were behind for the last long end but ended up with a draw.

May 15th away, v Upminster, won 9-0 league points , 85-56

Bright evening, very good turning rink, excellent friendly hosts with good food and best of a good performances form our teams winning on all rinks - maybe the first time at Upminster for many years.

Mike Seviour, Ian and Mark, steady scoring especially in the second half, 16-7 win

Steve, John and Brian with a very close game 10 all at 10 ends, 17 all at 17 despite giving away a 6 on the 5th end.  Squeezing home with a 2 on the last despite the opposition firing the jack out of what was our winning hold - a 19-17 win.

Mel, Graham and Gary conceding a 7 on the 10th end to go behind but then took over to win well 28-16 - some exceptional bowling by Gary when we were often a number of shots down on some ends.

Jeff, Jon and David Aggio - another very close match with just one shot in it most of the game.  We finished better from 2 shots behind on the 15th to win 18-16, well done indeed.

June 5th Away v Gidea Park Lost 1-8 League points

Sunny at times and got quite cold as the game progressed.

Rink one with Brian, John and Steve were behind until the eleventh end and managed to hold their own and achieve a draw which in the end was the only point we scored.

Very enjoyable meal was had at the end of match.

Monday 19th June 2023 Away Rainham Score Rainham 4 Points Billericay 5 points

Weather was warm no rain, Rinks 1& 6 played very well contributing the two winning rinks generating 4 points and scoring quite well to help to give Billericay the overall win and the extra point.

However rink 5s game had to stop at the 7th end due to illness, we decided to count the points on that rink, so we are awaiting to hear if that will accepted.

Monday 26th June 2023 Billericay Vs Haynes Park Home Billericay 3 points Haynes Park 1 Point

Interesting match in that Hayes Park advised before match that they could only field 9 players, but on the day due to unforeseen circumstances we ended up one player short, so only two games of the 4 were played, however we managed to win overall 39 to 20 giving Billericay the bonus point.

Rink 3 were desperately unlucky when holding 4 shots on last end, which would have given them the win in a tight match, when their skip bowled a fantastic last wood to take that end giving the win 12/14.

Monday 17th July 2023 Away Hutton Poplars Vs Billericay Result Hutton Poplars 7 points BBC 1 point

Unfortunately Billericay lost on 3 rinks and had a draw on one rink hence the 7-1 score, although on rink 3 Gary , Graham and Mel got off to a bad start with 6 to HP they managed to claw this back and get ahead by the 15th end but were not able to score any further points so in the end lost by one point.

The other teams played well and in the main had close matches but it wasn't to be our night.

Monday 4th September 2023 Home BBC Vs Upminster Score BBC 6 points Upminster 3

A lovely evening to play the last match of the season. We were playing Upminster who are at the bottom of the league.

Steve, Tony and Mark on rink 3 were behind at end 7, but they managed to get back slowly to win 16/15 on the last end.

Gary, Dave B and Mel on rink 4 were well ahead 13-1 on end 7 but didn't score for the next 5 ends. They slowly managed to win 18-15.

Brian, Dave A and Jeff on rink 5 had a steady lead of 11-7 up to end 9. The  next five ends were won by us giving a lead of 23-7, but sadly dropped the next four ends. Being so far ahead meant we won 23-14.

John F, Winston and John B were down 3-13 at 9 ends. Unfortunately they dropped a 5 on end 12 finally ending up losing 5-27.

We gained 6 points for winning 3 rinks, but didn't get the bonus point as we went down 60-71 shots.

Thanks to everyone who participated in the Brentwood league. Although we started the season near the top, sadly we have dropped a few places. we hope you have enjoyed this season and look forward to the next.
