Mens County Matches 24

Abergavenny

First round in this popular competition  will be played at home against Bognor on Monday 15th July at 1800

 Win of 43 shots to 33

Next Round was against Chichester on 18th July, lost 37 - 45

 

Mens 4 Wood Singles

Jack Carline had  a Bye in the first round, and played away., in the second round  at Worthing Pavilion - won this 21 - 16.

Third Round was played at Home against a chap from Tarring Priory, winning again 21 - 6.

Round 4 was played at home against another from Worthing Pavilion and Jack has  proceeded to go on to play the Area Finals by winning this round 21 - 16.The Area Finals , with Jack being the Challenger, playing at home against Chichester, succeeded in winning 21 -15. Next Round is the quarter finals, being played at Peacehaven on Friday 5th July will be against a chap from Sidley Martlets. Unfortunately Jack lost in this round but well done for getting this far

 

Mens 2 Wood Singles

This competition is played as a knockout tournament on 1 day, which was on Sunday 2nd June at Chichester.

3 of our guys entered this - results as follows:

Matt Thain unfortunately lost in the first round 9 - 16

Terry Carline won the first round 14 - 9, then went out in the second round 8 -15.

Jack Carline faired better winning the first 2 rounds, 15 -14, 16 - 1 but then bowed out in the third round 8 -15.

 

Mens Singles Unbadged

Geoff Gair  play the first round of this match away at Tarring Priory winning 21 - 13.

Next round was away at Witterings on Wednesday 10th July - lost 8 - 21

Matt Thain entered this competition and  had his first round away at Worthing Pavilion, but lost 4 - 21

 

Mens Champion of Champions Single

Geoff Gair, as Maltravers Mens Champion for 2023 played at home against a chap from Bognor but lost this 15 - 21.

 

 

Mens County Pairs

Terry Carline & Jack Carline travelled to Midhurst for their first round in the County Pairs and succeeded in a good win of 22 shots to 8.

They go on to play another two from Maltravers - Alan Howe & Alex Stavrou, who had a bye in the first round. Alan and Alex are the Challengers and this was played on Wednesday 5th June at Maltravers. A good nip and tuck game commenced , with the match eventually being won by  Alex and Alan 20 shots to 15.

They  played at home in the 3rd Round but unfortunately lost this round 10 - 21 to a pair from Chichester.

Geoff Gair and Bob Read played away at  Norfolk, in a very closely fought game  but lost in the 1st round 20 - 21

 

 

Mens County Triples

Terry Carline, Jack Carline & Jimmy Wan played the first round home to Southbourne and succeeded in a win - 21 -12

Next round played on Thursday 23rd May away to Worthing Pavilion resulted in a loss unfortunately of 10 shots to 23

 

Our other triples team consisting of Alex Stavrou, Alan Howe & Geoff Gair also played at home in their first round on Mon 20th May against 3 from Tarring Priory and won 22 - 15.

The next round played on Thursday 23rd May, against Witterings, and resulted in a good win of 24 shots to 11with the opposition conceding after 16 ends.

The next round was played again,  at home,  against Worthing Pavilion D team. This close game finished in a win of 15 shots to 13.

Geoff, Alex and Alan now proceed to the Area Finals to be played on Thursday 30th May away to Worthing Pavilion. Unfortunately this drew to an end of their participation in this year as they lost 11 - 26.

Mens County Fours

Two teams from Maltravers entered the County 4's this year.

First Round played on Thursday 9th May

Terry Carline, Jack Carline, Tony Jones & Jimmy Wan played at home against a team from Worthing Pavilion.

Unfortunately our guys lost this match 12 - 20.

Our second team of Alan Howe, George Gatford, Geoff Gair & Bob Read had their first round drawn away to a team from Crablands.

This resulted in a win for the Maltravers Lads of 21 shots to 3.

Monday 13th May they travelled to Southbourne for the second round, and playing on  an artificial green but conceded after 15 ends 9 - 23.

 

Mens County Senior Fours

In this draw 2 teams from Maltravers played each other in the first round on Friday 17th May 

George Gatford, Bob Read, Mike Sherwood & Geoff Gair were drawn to play at home against Terry Carline, Alan Howe, Mike Schools and Alex Stavrou in the first round. With a lot of good feeling and entertainment  for those watching George Gatfords team won with a score of  21 shots to 14. George and his team played the second round  on Tuesday 28th at Worthing Pavilion with another great win of 19 shots to 8.

Round 3 is another match against Worthing Pavilion A at Maltravers, on 16th June which resulted in a further win of 16 shots to 4.

Next round is the quarter-finals, playing again at home against 4 from White Rock. This unfortunately put an end to their run, bowing out with a score of 10 - 21.

 

PC Cup 2024

In the first round Maltravers were drawn at home to Middleton - this was played on, Saturday 25th May on a sunny afternoon .

Unfortunately that was all that was in our favour, despite the men putting up a good game Middleton were just that bit too strong and we lost overall by 72 shots to 84

Terry Carline, Jack Carline, Dave Evans & Jimmy Wan lost 14 -19

Bob Read, Alex Stavrou, Matt Thain & Mike Sherwood drew 18 all

George Gatford, Geoff Gair, Polo & Tony Marks lost 17 - 32

Alan Howe, Tony Jones, Mike Schools & John Hoare won 23 - 15 (Top Rink)
