Index of Names for Book 2 - 1883-1911

The Alton Registers of Burials contains details of people of all denominations who were buried in Alton Cemetery from its opening in 1856. The information given usually includes the name, a short description, age, place of death, date of burial, name of the person performing the ceremony and the Cemetery plot number listed in alphabetical surname order. Although most of the people died in Alton, there were some who were brought back to be interred here from quite a distance away.

The Remembered Ones of the Great War from the Alton Villages

Volume 1     Bentworth to Farringdon

Volume 2     Froyle to Selborne

A group of people interested in the history of Alton and the surrounding area formed the Alton and Villages Local History Forum and decided to research the names on the village war memorials and publish their findings. Each section has a picture of the memorial and a page of general information followed by the listed names with the results of the research on each person.

The villages in Volume 1 are Bentworth, Binsted, Chawton, East Tisted, East Worldham and Farringdon. Those in Volume 2 are Hartley Mauditt, Holybourne, Kingsley, Medstead, Newton Valence and Selborne.
