Warnford Neighbourhood Watch has been running for some years now and many Warnford residents are already members. It is run by Lucy Hutchinson & Alex Bennett and membership is free. Police reports of criminal activity in the area (one hopes these will continue to be very ‘thin’ as far as Warnford is concerned!) plus Trading Standards alerts etc, (eg on the latest scams, which seem to be on the increase) will be posted on this website (listed below). By registering for Alerts you will automatically get an email when a new report has been posted with a link to access it. Suspicious activity in the area may also be put on the website, if appropriate.
Warnford NW is part of the Hampshire Neighbourhood Watch Association and so relevant information from the HNWA is also posted. NW has also been used to reunite various wandering cats and dogs with their worried owners!
Whilst anyone can access the website information, those who join the NW are put on an email distribution list so they receive, via Lucy or Alex, emails on matters which are not appropriate for the website. There is also a telephone cascade so that people can be contacted by phone rather than email if matters are urgent. To join the Warnford NW please email your request to Lucy .
Hampshire Police have a system of ‘alerts’ whereby individuals sign up to receive email alerts direct from the Police of criminal activity in their areas of interest and individuals are encouraged to sign up for these. See the section below for more information on this and how to register for these alerts. These Hampshire ‘alerts’ will not be posted on this website nor will they be circulated by email (as used to happen) so please do take a look and register for whichever Police alerts you would like to receive.
It is always good to be vigilant and keep eyes peeled for what may be untoward activity.
Thieves operate in this area
Please be aware that thieves frequently operate in many of the beauty spots around the South Downs National Park, including around Old Winchester Hill and Beacon Hill close to us in Warnford. Police advice is to ensure that your car is locked, windows are not left open and no valuables are left on display. It is best to remove anything of value from the car and take it with you as thieves often break into parked cars speculatively. Try to park in the designated car parks where there is likely to be regular activity from other members of the public.
Hampshire Alert is a new police system of contacting the public across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.
Hampshire Alert is compatible with the National Neighbourhood Watch Alerts system. Neighbourhood Watch coordinators and members of their schemes, who when registered, will receive all alerts that are relevant to their areas of interest.
There are a number of different ways that users can register. These are:-
· Hampshire Alert (www.hampshirealert.co.uk),
· Neighbourhood Alerts (www.ourwatch.org.uk)
· Country Watch (www.hampshirecountrywatch.co.uk).
All of these sites will allow you access to receive alerts relevant to you. Remember that when you register on any of these sites it is important to identify that you are a part of Neighbourhood Watch and so you receive regular, timely updates.
We would encourage you all to sign up through Hampshire Alert at www.hampshirealert.co.uk
If you have already registered through Country Watch or through National Neighbourhood Watch, you are automatically registered for Hampshire Alert, Just please take a moment to check that you have elected to receive updates relating to both the Police and Neighbourhood Watch.
